Chief Joseph Foundation was fortunate to have received a grant from the Disney Foundation in order to buy land as a home base for the foundation. We purchased 12 acres of flat fertile land in the heart of the Lapwai valley. This land serves as the home base for the Foundation. The land is in the heart of the Nez Perce Reservation and 13 miles from Lewiston Idaho, which has a population of 50,000 people. Here he have 2 round pens and a small covered canopy where we have activities. We currently have a program with the Nez Perce Tribe Health Program, where at risk adults and children work with our horses at our pasture to aid in healing their mental health. In the past we have had programs for Idaho Special Olympics program with the State of Idaho and riding programs for the Boys and Girl clubs of the valley. In the future our goal is to continuing working with these organizations and adding the North Idaho Children Home and a new program for Heroes and Horses that include American military veterans. These activities are difficult with our outdoor facility but we have been able to accommodate them in the past. CJF hopes to be able to build a facility so we can provide these activities year around and in a covered building.
